Apparently there's some software for it to interface with that you can download, and it syncs your contacts etc. I don't believe it has a media browser thing. I guess that's why I've said that it's not really beginner friendly - iTunes, as bloaty and horrendous it is, is really great for newbies. However the newbies also don't get that you can't "share" music (ha ha ha) ;) and when you have to restore it can be confusing. Two years is a very long time for technology. The 3GS is considerably faster than the 3G, and the next gen "4G" supposedly has the same processor as the iPad, which is constantly being praised for its speediness. Music I don't mind going through iTunes, as then it automatically puts my latest songs on my phone. But that's just a personal preference.
